Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Outpatient Program is the least intensive level of care offered by The Sequoia Center. It is currently offered four evenings per week. Most clients attend two to three evenings per week. Groups offered may include Process Group, Assignment Group, Gender Group, Multi-Family Group, Relapse Prevention Group, Grief and Loss Group, Relapse Analysis Group and other groups as needed. Clients and family members attend the evening Educational Lectures Program. Clients meet with a Case Manager weekly to determine treatment goals and to monitor his/her progress. Clients also attend outside 12-Step meetings as a part of the Center’s holistic approach to treatment and recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What will my evening schedule look like in IOP?
A: Your treatment plan is tailored to fit your schedule. This is discussed and decided during the first meeting with your Case Manager.

Q: What kind of therapy will I receive?
A: You will meet with your Case Manager weekly for brief individual sessions. The Sequoia Center believes that Group Milieu Therapy is the best model for addiction treatment. Thus, the primary therapy you receive will be from the groups you attend at the Center and at outside 12-Step meetings.

Q: What can my family expect?
A: The Sequoia Center is proud to be a premier provider of family treatment and support services. Once assessed and admitted, each client, along with his/her family or significant other, is assigned to a Multi-Family Group that meets weekly in a group setting. Immediately following the Multi-Family Group, the family/significant other attends a Family Support Group without the client. Soon after admission, the family and client meet with a Family Therapist to discuss important family issues related to recovery. This is scheduled at the earliest convenience of the family members and when deemed clinically appropriate by the staff. Additionally, family members will attend an Orientation meeting to become familiar with the program, ask questions, and understand the process.

The Family

At The Sequoia Center, we believe that the disease of addiction affects much more than the alcoholic or addict—it affects family, friends and co-workers. The addicted person and their loved ones are adversely affected in virtually every area of life—physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

To help families break the cycle of addiction and heal in recovery, The Sequoia Center offers evenings and Saturday programs for family members and friends of clients. The Center provides a team of Family Therapists who work with families. Family members work on their own issues, develop self-care techniques, and learn how to support loved ones in their recovery process.

We strongly encourage family and friends to attend the following: Family Workshop (held monthly), weekly Multi-Family Group, weekly Family Support Group (after Multi-Family Group), and the nightly Educational Lecture Program.

Family Workshop

Held once a month, the three-hour session addresses the following:

* Feelings around addiction and its effects on the family
* Education about a loved one’s addiction
* Setting boundaries and avoiding codependency and enabling behaviors

The Family Workshop is scheduled for the first Saturday of every month from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Multi-Family Group

This group meets once a week in the evening to discuss common issues that arise in families battling the disease of addiction. It is an opportunity to begin effecting change in the family system, change that promotes the development of a new and sustainable balance for the all whose lives are impacted by the disease.

Family Support Group

Family members meet separately from the client to support one another and learn how to change behaviors that may sustain the symptoms of their loved one’s addiction. These often include well-intentioned acts of kindness that actually enable and facilitate the progression of the disease. The Family Support Group teaches new behaviors that put the well-being of the family member first. The group is held immediately following the Multi-Family Group.

Educational Lecture Program

Friends and family members are encouraged to attend the evening Educational Lectures Program, offered four evenings a week from 5:30 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. The program provides a greater understanding of addiction and recovery. Topics may include:

* Physical, Emotional, Social and Spiritual Consequences of Addiction
* Issues Related to the Addictive Process
* Relapse Triggers and Prevention
* Healthy Family Systems
• Nutrition and Addiction
• The Addictive Brain
• What is Addiction?
• The History of Alcoholics Anonymous

Education

The Sequoia Center provides a series of Educational Lectures on a variety of chemical dependency topics. These may include Family and Work Relationship Dynamics, The Nature of the Disease of Addiction, the Addictive Brain, Nutrition and Spirituality and Recovery Concepts. We invite speakers from the community as well as our own in-house network of clinical staff.

The Educational Lecture Program, held four evenings per week, is also available to those who are contemplating entry into residential or outpatient treatment, for a small fee. Call us now to find out how-800 997-5504.

Continuing Care

Upon successful completion of the program, we provide Continuing Care groups to Alumni. A client may attend one 90-minute group per week for one year, free of charge. This is an excellent support for all graduates. We strongly encourage this type of ongoing group support for long-term recovery. In addition, Alumni Family members may participate in ‘What About Me?’ groups on a weekly basis.

Continuing Care Support for Families

The Sequoia Center offers a weekly support group to family members who have participated in the treatment program, following their loved one’s discharge from treatment. The group, ‘What About Me?’ is a fee-for-service support group facilitated by a Family Therapist for the support of alumni family members.
